Baraya Barray

Baraya Barray, meaning Sing Country in Gathang language, is a new stream of Red Room Poetry’s Poetry in First Languages. The project was created to celebrate and revive First Nations languages through school-based workshops, empowering children to reconnect with their culture through poetry. This series, titled Whale Song, centres on the whales’ migration along Australia’s east coast. The brief was to create a visual identity and a cultural element that would reflect the series.

The cultural element represents the whales’ journey, reflecting their movements and the different phases of their migration. The colour palette is inspired by the various shades of the ocean and represents the various stages of the whales’ journey. This cultural element is embedded into the ‘Y’ of the logo, staying true to Red Room Poetry’s brand while telling the story of Baraya Barray.
