Brief
Baraya Barray, meaning Sing Country in the Gathang language, is a new initiative under Red Room Poetry’s First Languages program. This project was designed to celebrate and revive First Nations languages through school-based workshops, empowering children to reconnect with their culture through poetry. The current series, Whale Song, focuses on the annual migration of whales along Australia’s east coast, using this as the foundation for poetic storytelling. The brief was to develop a visual identity and a cultural element that reflected the series’ themes.
Outcome
A visual identity was created for Baraya Barray, with a cultural element that represents the whales’ journey, capturing their movement and the different phases of migration. The colour palette takes inspiration from the ocean’s varied tones and the coastline. The cultural element is embedded into the ‘Y’ of the logo to create a connection to the project's narrative.
