Shine Lawyers

Shine Lawyers is investigating a class action alleging systemic racism by the Department of Child Protection toward First Nations families. It is alleged that children were wrongfully removed from their families and denied reunification. The brief was to create a cultural artwork that symbolically represents the class action and its purpose.

Aboriginal artwork created for Shine Lawyers' class action campaign, using patterned line work and a family tree motif to represent First Nations family reunification
The design uses patterned line work to illustrate the barriers that have separated families. The central form represents Shine Lawyers’ role in breaking through those barriers. The leaves depict the family tree - the underside shows the loss and harm, while the other represents renewal and reconnection. Surrounding dots symbolise people uniting in strength and shared purpose.
